Ulverston is a traditional market town in the southern Lakes a few miles inland from the shores of Morecambe Bay and a short drive from Coniston and Windermere. Ancient charter granted the town a market every Thursday but today Ulverston has markets on both Thursdays and Saturdays. The Saturday market promotes local craft, local produce and charity stalls. Ulverston is at the start of the Cumbria Way, on the Cumbria Coastal Way and the Walney to Wear Cycle Route. It is the birthplace of Stan Laurel (of Laurel & Hardy fame) and houses a museum devoted to them. Town festivals include the Flag Festival, Walking Festival, Dickensian and Charter Festival which includes the Lantern Procession. There are bed and breakfast establishments (b&b) in the town and environs, also an hotel with others, and inns, within a few miles. Finding an Ulverston B&B couldnt be easier, with so many B&Bs throughout the market town.
