St Bees B&B

St Bees is a village with a private boys school founded in the 16th century as a grammar school. St Bees was also the site of a medieval abbey, the church of which still exists. St. Bees Head separates the village from Whitehaven about 5 miles away and is the start of the Coast to Coast Walk. It also has an important cliff seabird population. There is a large beach just south of the South Head within walking distance of the village. St Bees railway station is on the Cumbrian Coast line to Carlisle. The railway brought tourists and professional people commuting to Whitehaven, Workington and now Sellafield. Building sandstone is quarried and exported from the area. There are a number of hotels and bed and breakfasts (b&bs) in St Bees, also some self catering accommodation.
