Kirkby-in-Furness Hotels

Kirkby-in-Furness is a small coastal village on the Duddon Estuary. It is about 5 km south of Broughton in Furness. Kirkby is a combination of six different hamlets: Soutergate, Wall End, Beck Side, Sand Side, Marshside and Chapels, and is the name the Furness Railway company gave to the local station when constructing the Cumbrian Coast Line. Much of the village was originally built for slate quarry workers, and the railway was linked to the quarries. It has two good pubs, a village shop and post office, a 12th century church and a railway station. Today Kirkby-in-Furness is mainly a commuter village with some slate and agricultural workers. There is a quantity of accommodation, hotel, country house, farm, guesthouse, within five or six miles of Kirkby-in-Furness but only a few b&bs (bed and breakfast accommodation) in or near Kirkby itself.
