Cockermouth CottagesCockermouth has a pleasant Main Street with a double row of trees. In one of the most attractive houses, William Wordsworth the poet was born in 1770. The town has an excellent variety of shops, pubs, restaurants, galleries and other visitor attractions, like the Sheep and Wool Centre and the Kirkgate Arts Centre. It makes an ideal base from which to explore the Northern Lakes and Cumbrian Coast. There are mountains and lakes close by and the sea only half a dozen miles away. Cockermouth has self-catering accommodation both in the town and out in the surrounding rural area. The rural properties tend to be converted farmhouses or cottages or other farm buildings like barns. There are only the occasional modern cottage, house or bungalow. In the town the available self-catering properties are mostly in terraces facing directly onto the street. |
