Barrow In Furness B&B

Barrow-in-Furness is a Victorian built town and seaport, surrounded by beautiful beaches and backed by the splendid scenery of the Lake District. The town is situated at the tip of the Furness peninsula bordering Morecambe Bay and the Irish Sea. Barrow is just 60 miles (97 km) south of the Scottish border. With a population of approximately 72,000, there are several hotels, a number of guesthouses, bed and breakfast (b&b) establishments and also self catering accommodation in the town. Barrow was a small fishing village until the mid-19th century when the building of the railway allowed iron ore to be taken to the area and smelted. With a natural harbour, locally produced steel came to be used in shipbuilding. The shipyard was to become an important builder of naval vessels. Despite decreases in military spending, it is the largest submarine production facility in the UK.
