Appleby-In-Westmorland Hotels
Appleby is a medieval market town on the eastern edge of Cumbria in the Eden valley. It holds a 300 year old horse fair every June from the first Thursday to the next Wednesday. The fair attracts over 10,000 gypsies and travellers to the annual gathering, unique in Europe. Over 30,000 other visitors also attend. It transforms the town for the week as the normal population is only about 2,500. Another festival is held in July: a jazz festival. The town has hotels and inns in the town itself. There are a number of other hotels within ten miles or so, mainly in the Penrith direction and in Kirkby Stephen.
